The Artist's Studio, a hideaway for two on the edge of Derwent Reservoir

Wake to water and open sky. Set right on the shore of Derwent Reservoir, The Artist's Studio is a one‑bedroom retreat built for two, a beautifully restored stone building that began life as a blacksmith's forge, calf shed and, later, an artist's studio, now wrapped around a striking contemporary extension. Thick old walls and honest materials meet floor‑to‑ceiling glass and long reservoir views, so however far you've come, the moment you arrive the world goes quiet. This is a place to slow right down: to light the log burner, sink into the bath, and let the days stretch out.

Sleeps 2 · One bedroom · Dogs welcome

Inside the studio

Step inside and the old and the new fold together. Underfloor heating runs warm beneath your feet, a wood‑burning stove throws out its glow, and light pours in across the reservoir. The open kitchen is generously equipped for cooking properly, with a separate drinks fridge for chilling something for the terrace, and there's a comfortable spot to curl up when the weather turns.

A mezzanine snug sits tucked above the main space: the perfect place for a book, a nightcap, or simply watching the light change over the water. High‑speed Starlink wifi keeps you connected when you want to be, with a dedicated workspace if a day or two of remote working is what earns you the escape, and easily switched off when it isn't.

Outdoor Living

The studio opens onto its own enclosed private garden, so you can throw the doors wide and let the outside in. Fire up the BBQ as the afternoon softens, then gather round the fire pit as the light fades and the stars come out, and they really do come out here. There's even a telescope for the clear nights. With the reservoir on your doorstep, mornings might start with coffee and birdsong and the water perfectly still; evenings end with woodsmoke, a glass of something, and no reason at all to head indoors.

Bedroom & Bathroom

The bedroom is a calm, restful room with a king bed dressed for a proper night's sleep and those same far‑reaching views to wake up to. The bathroom is the quiet showstopper: a freestanding copper and nickel bath positioned to make the most of the outlook, alongside a walk‑in rainfall shower. Run a deep bath at the end of a long walk, watch the sky do its thing over the reservoir, and understand exactly why people come here.
